The popularity of Minecraft is seemingly never going to diminish in any meaningful way, with millions of players still logging in all the time to destroy and place blocks in any way they see fit.
That eternal admiration is more than enough for other developers to try and get themselves a slice of the proverbial pie, with many releasing games that take either direct inspiration from the OG or rip it off entirely.
One great example of the former is Hytale, a brand new release that has just enjoyed its first day in Early Access, and it has quickly garnered a level of popularity that few could have seen coming when the game was first announced.
Hytale Blows Expectations Out the Water in First Days in Early Access

Over on Twitter/X, IGN shared the following post confirming just how big Hytale’s first day in the wild had been with audiences at home.

“In its first day in early access, Hytale, the new sandbox game from the creators of popular Minecraft server Hypixel, shot up to briefly become the most popular game on Twitch with over 420k viewers.”
It's very unusual that a game manages to accrue the level of popularity required in order to become the most popular game on Twitch for any length of time, let alone one that doesn't come from an already highly established franchise.
If you were not familiar with the game yet, Hytale has been developed by Hypixel Studios, who were acquired by League of Legends developer Riot Studios in 2020.
I could try and pretend that Hytale and Minecraft are vastly different games but I'd be lying, with many now claiming that Hytale serves as a spiritual successor to the block building behemoth, given that we're likely never going to get an official direct sequel for that.

Not only is Hytale the most viewed game on Twitch right now, it's also the third most viewed category overall, behind only Just Chatting and Football, which itself is proving immensely popular thanks to the King’s League.
If you have been keeping up with the development of the game then you'll know just how surprising this might turn out to be. Hytale went through significant difficulties during development and was cancelled more than once, returning from the dead to blow expectations out the water and accrue a huge audience in a very short period of time.
It's early days yet but if they can carry this momentum forward then they are almost certainly onto a winner in the long term.
