Finally, some good news

Anyone who has ever been involved in any capacity knows that game development is an exceptionally tricky business, with all sorts of factors that could affect whether the project ever sees the light of day.

One game that knows that all too well is Hytale, a Minecraft competitor that had been in development for more than a decade, before being cancelled back in June by Riot Games, who had originally purchased developer Hypixel Studios back in 2020.

At the same time, the studio was seemingly shut and it looked like we were never going to get our hands on the game in any capacity.

In some genuinely exciting news, the game is now back from the dead, after the original developers repurchased the rights back from Riot Games, with plans to release it as soon as possible.

In sharing the exciting news over on Twitter/X, Hypixel co-founder Simon Collins-Laflamme confirmed that the game would be coming out as soon as possible, with a real emphasis on developing it in direct collaboration with the community.

"Huge thanks to Riot for working with me to make this happen. They wanted what’s best for players, and that’s for us to eventually play the game. This game has always been close to my heart, and I’m excited to bring it back home," the post read.

"Real talk: Hytale isn’t some polished AAA release waiting in the wings. It’s messy. It’s janky. And there’s a lot of work to be done. My plan? Get it out to you as soon as possible. No more waiting. You’ll get to play it, rough edges and all. It won’t be perfect on day one. My hope is that together, we’ll shape it into something truly special. Thanks for believing in Hytale. Time to get to work."

So whilst we don't have an official date for when some version of the game will be out, it should be relatively soon, and a damn sight quicker than the ten years we've been through so far.

In a longer statement issued on the official website for the game, Collins-Laflamme revealed that he and Hypixel co-founder Philippe Touchette are co-funding the resurrected Hytale (likely at a considerable cost., Kevin Carstens is the technical lead, whilst Patrick Derbic will serve as the management lead for this new phase in development. They also happily confirmed that 30 developers who had previously worked on Hytale have now been hired to return.
