I never really know how to feel whenever I see Minecraft modded to the point where it doesn’t really look like the game any more.
Having played Minecraft since it was in Alpha, and totalling up over 4,000 hours, seeing those crunchy, but gorgeous, pixel graphics overhauled unsettles me.
That’s the case here, with a video from Digital Dreams, a YouTuber known for modding games and seeing what they’d look like with everything turned up to 11.

Applying many different modpacks, and running the game on a beefy PC that includes an NVIDIA RTX 5090 FE, the game looks nothing like its roots.
While it’s an impressive feat, it’s so far removed from what I know and love that it becomes an instant turn-off.
This isn’t the case for all viewers of the video, with many seeing a beauty in this world that looks jarringly close to real life.
“Wow, this is absolutely gorgeous. There's something about realistic Minecraft that is so captivating,” said one viewer and long-time player.

To run the game this way yourself, it would not only take an expensive PC, but also loading several mods change the textures of the game.
The footage looks like an odd amalgamation of Google Earth and random PNG files spliced into Minecraft, retaining the blocky hand in the first-person view.
It’s not quite what Mojang or Microsoft envision, but if you’re eager to play the game with these textures, they’re simple to find.
Another viewer says, “My PC would blow up. This is incredible,” noting that it’s only possible with the best graphics cards on the market today.

Players can use thousands of mods within Minecraft, ranging from visual upgrades to complete gameplay overhauls that add hundreds of new items and blocks to the world.
I think I’ll stick with vanilla Minecraft, for now.
