I’m not sure how, and I’m certainly not sure why, but a team of developers has completely remade Portal 2… but in a completely different video game.
This one is going to take some explaining.
Portal 3 is, as with all Valve games that end in “3”, probably never going to happen– but hey, at least we have Portal: Java Edition.
“What the hell is Portal: Java Edition?” I hear you ask. Well it’s a complete remake of Portal 2, but in Minecraft.

Why does this exist? What compelled the team of roughly 20 people to work on it for five years? I don’t have the answers to these questions, nor do I think I want them.
However, what I can tell you is that it’s completely free to download (although you will need a copy of Minecraft: Java Edition to install it).
Weirdly enough, while this is a mod in a sense, it apparently doesn’t feature any third-party content.
According to Kotaku’s Zack Zwiezen, Portal: Java Edition is pulling all of its content and resources from the vanilla version of Minecraft.

I’ve watched the trailer for Portal: Java Edition a bunch of times and even watched someone’s playthrough, and I genuinely have no idea how the hell this is possible. It’s incredibly impressive work, but at the same time it’s oddly bizarre that they opted not to use any modded content to pull the whole thing off.
If you want to play it for yourself, all you have to do is head over to the official Portal: Java Edition website and hit download.
It is highly suggested that you use the AMD compatible download if you want to try and play it, however, as while the standard version doesn’t use any third-party mods to pull all of this off, it sounds like it may need them to offset some performance issues.
Honestly, what will they think of next? Maybe someone can remake Minecraft using Portal 2 instead?

That’s not a serious suggestion. Please, do not try to do that.
