Steam Quietly Adds 4 Free Games We Can't Believe Cost Nothing

Everything on this list slaps (which I know because I actually played them all)

There are four completely free games on Steam right now that are, for whatever reason, completely free… even though I personally think that I’d have gladly paid for at least a couple of games on this list.

Everyone loves a free game. Unless, y’know, the free game is hot garbage.

When it comes to the free titles on Steam, it’s starting to get more and more difficult to parse through all of the stuff that drops on the platform every single goddamn day.

There’s a lot of slop on there, and said slop comes in a variety of different forms. Gacha nonsense, predatory microtransaction filled garbage, AI-generated crap– Steam freebies truly are some of the worst of the worst.

So, how do you find out which ones are decent? Easy. You just let me tell you.

Here’s a curated list of four free games on Steam from the last few weeks that you probably missed, and that are actually worth playing.

First up, Stomach from developer and publisher Vertical Fish Studios.

I gave this one a go after featuring it in a very similar list to this one, and I’m very glad I did. I’m a sucker for PS1-style horror games and this game just ticked every box for me. Creepy, kinda funny at times, and, most importantly, pretty fun. Big recommend.

Next up, Ødeborg from publisher Myre36, and developer TeamTBD.

This game seems like it's also trying to ape the PS1-style of horror games, but in a different style to the Stomach. It reminded me a lot of the OG Alone in the Dark games, graphics-wise at least, and I liked how oddly restrictive it felt. Pretty good swing at making a game from a first time dev team.

BABBAP is a deckbuilding party game from developer and publisher BAP HQ, and I thoroughly recommend giving this one a go with a mate.

The best way I can describe this game is that it’s a roguelike deckbuilder that revolves around annoying your opponents. Your goal is to make the most annoying, broken build as possible, and then use it against your friend in a bid to get them to uninstall and never talk to you again. I found it very fun (but then again, I did also keep winning, so your mileage may vary).

And finally, Island Market Simulator: Prologue from developer and publisher Zentium Studio.

Now, this game seems to be a demo of sorts, based on how the devs are selling it. But don't let the term "demo" fool you, because this game is stacked. It's a management sim that sees you building a trade empire in a sort of pirate-esque setting, and I felt like I played it for hours and still didn't finish everything. Looking forward to seeing what the devs can do with the full release.

And that’s your lot, you greedy little scamp.

But don’t worry, give it an hour or two and I’m sure there will be another fifty thousand free games on Steam… just don’t blame me if you play something I didn’t recommend.
