Pokémon players are just now discovering an “adorable” feature that hasn’t been seen in the series in over 20 years.
Pokémon LeafGreen and FireRed have now been re-released for Nintendo Switch, and some players are having fun rediscovering this age-old classic.
LeafGreen was the first Pokémon game I ever played, so it holds a special place in my heart as a result, but even I admit there’s a lot about the game I’ve completely forgotten since last playing.
As one player has pointed out, Pokémon FireRed has a recap feature (which is also available in LeafGreen) when loading a save to help remind you of your previous progress.

X user @constarlations posted about this, sharing a video showing off their progress. Their character is shown obtaining the town map in Pallet Town, obtaining Teachy TV in Viridian City, removing a potion from their inventory and storing it on the PC, and managing to get out of Viridian Forest.
The user calls the feature “adorable” and compares it to the recaps used in the Pokémon TV series, which featured similar recaps at the start of every episode.
“It’s very helpful if you stop playing for a while and have no idea what you did the last time you played I’m surprised they only did it with these games,” another user wrote in the replies to the original post.
“Honestly, I kinda wish the modern games did this as well, which as a fan of and think people criticize unfairly, is something I will say that the modern games lack. Like not everyone can play immediately after they save and log out, a reminder would be nice,” another person wrote.

Recap Features Should Be Available In More Games, Let Me Remember My Progress
It’s a feature I think a lot of games would benefit from, especially ones which require a long playthrough just to see to completion.
I’m never going to finish an Assassin’s Creed game in a week, for example, rather stretching that out over a few months instead.
A recap feature every time I boot up the game would do wonders.
In terms of other games I can think of which do this, The Witcher 3 and Dragon Quest 11 come to mind.
The recently released Resident Evil Requiem also does this in the form of text on the loading screen, which is a nice non-invasive way of doing it.
