Assassin's Creed Mirage microtransactions leak

Assassin's Creed Mirage microtransactions leak

Microtransactions have been confirmed for Assassin's Creed Mirage via a leak

Video game leaks are almost expected for big name games – gone are the days when we were left in the dark about features until we were starting a new game. Love it or hate it, leaks are here to stay, as demonstrated by the latest leak from Assassin’s Creed Mirage.

Set to be released early autumn, the latest installment is said to be returning the franchise to its roots, back when Altair ran the show (though he won’t be included, sadly). However, one element that isn’t old school is that Mirage will feature microtransactions.

Considering that microtransactions have been a staple of the franchise since Assassin’s Creed Unity, and are heavily featured in other Ubisoft titles, this “news” won’t shock many. Still, for fans who’ve been holding out hope that returning to its roots meant back to basics, the news of microtransactions is a bitter pill.

The microtransaction leak, which was first spotted on Twitter in the early hours, has since been updated, with the image removed due to copyright restrictions. However, Reddit has done its thing to ensure fans can still get all the details about this latest development.

Sadly, when we say details, we’re using the word generously. Although the tweet showed placeholder text for in-game purchases, there’s no solid information on what these microtransactions will offer players. Typically, microtransactions are cosmetic, allowing gamers to change the appearance of their avatar, skins, etc, and so it seems likely Assassin’s Creed Mirage will give us much of the same.

Frustrations aside, what fans can be thankful for is that Mirage will be much shorter than previous titles, like Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Previously, gamers were clocking up to 60 hours of gameplay when doing a completionist run, which, while a lot of bang for your buck, can feel a little tedious.

After the debacle of a Valhalla update removing several DLCs after Ubisoft cut game support, it's fair to say that less is definitely more when it comes to this franchise.

Regardless of how you feel about this latest news, Assassin’s Creed Mirage does have one redeeming feature that may win back some players: photo mode. That’s right, if you’re an assassin who wants to take some incredible screenshots, you’re in luck. This mode should be available across all platforms, thus allowing us to discover a life of assassinations and photography – such a winning combo!

Upon its release on 12 October 2023, Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be available on Playstation, Xbox, and PC.
