Assassin’s Creed Shadows was an impressive return to form for a series that many felt had become listless in its old age.
Whether you were a fan of the RPG-era of Creed games or not, this stripped back version set in Feudal Japan did more than enough to bring players back on board for more killing in the name of being better people than the Templars.
It was also commercially pretty successful for Ubisoft, despite some unpleasant discussions around the game from the terminally online, so it’s understandable that the conversation has quickly turned to other platforms where the game may appear.
The most obvious group who were left out of the proverbial stabbing party were Nintendo Switch players, and the developer is yet to confirm whether the game will be making its way over to the latest version of the console.

Well, in good news for those of you who do want to see it there, it seems it might be releasing relatively soon, if a leak from a prominent retailer is to be believed. As first reported by Kotaku, a listing for the game on the Switch 2 appeared on the website for the store Auchan, though it falls short of providing us with a potential price or release window.
There are some obviously tricky elements to its translation to handheld formats that will need to be overcome to make it a reality. The first, and most obvious, example is the visuals, with the game still serving as one of the prettiest experiences available on the current generation of consoles.
It’s also pretty enormous (thanks, in part, to those visuals), clocking in at over 100GB in its current form. Though it will release as a game key card, to alleviate some of those issues, it’s still a massive ask for the handheld and not particularly tenable if you’re the type of person who likes to have a lot of games on the console at once.
Now obviously the reduction in visual fidelity will go some way to assuaging the issues with the massive file size but they'll still need to get some pretty nifty compressions done to make it viable.

Equally, the Switch 2 is significantly more powerful than the predecessor console, and it's capable of running some pretty beefy games at some pretty solid frame rates, so with this listing now out in the wild, a Shadows port looks more viable than ever.
