Marvel Comics has announced that Ms. Marvel will be killed in an upcoming issue, and fans are not happy about it at all. Rightly so.

Kamala Khan is a character who’s rapidly increased in popularity in recent months thanks to her inclusion in the MCU. Brought to life by the delightful Iman Vellani, I urge you to watch Disney Plus’ Ms. Marvel if you haven’t already. It’s also a series that introduced mutants into the MCU, something fans have been waiting for for a long time. The character will next appear in The Marvels but over in the world of comics, Kamala Khan’s adventure is drawing to a close.

Take a look at the trailer for The Marvels below. The film is set to be released on 10 November, 2023.

As reported by The Direct, Kamala is currently a supporting character in the latest run of The Amazing Spider-Man written by Zeb Wells and drawn by John Romita Jr. Kamala has been working as an intern at Oscorp, snooping on the company’s ex-CEO. That snooping will soon prove to be deadly though as in the lead up to issue #26, Marvel Comics have been teasing “the most shocking issue of Amazing Spider-Man in 50 years”.

That issue has now leaked online. Due to release on 31 May, the issue will see Kamala Khan die. A follow up will then release titled Fallen Friend: The Death of Ms. Marvel written by G. Willow Wilson, Saladin Ahmed, and Mark Waid - allowing further Marvel heroes to mourn her death. Needless to say, fans are pretty gutted to hear the news.

Twitter user alderaanleias wrote, “They killed off Kamala Khan?? In one of the worst Spider-Man comic runs ever? Shut up. Stop it. No Way,” while makeminemayday added, “Kamala Khan deserves better. Her fans deserved this in her own book, with her actual supporting cast. This feels disrespectful, and it being AAPI heritage month, this isn’t lost on me.” IsannBeyond said, “You decided to fridge Kamala Khan outside of her own book during AAPI month and angered Spider-Man and Ms. Marvel fans even further in the process. An astonishing play, Marvel Truly.”

It’s believed that Kamala will return as a mutant, which would match the powers she’s unveiled to have in the MCU so it’s not the real end for Ms. Marvel, at least we think. No plans have been unveiled for the comic character beyond her current death. It’s a shame to see such an incredible hero temporarily shelved. Hopefully, her return isn’t too far away.
