Marvel officially introduces our new Thor in wild twist

Don't worry, there's still Mortal come

Now that we officially know Thor is on his way out, Marvel has opted to follow up his death with a brand new replacement… well, sort of new, anyway.

Thank you in advance to Comicbook's Tim Adams for the original source!

Alright, so, spoilers: Thor is dead.

Just to clarify, I don’t mean the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Thor (although that weirdly vague post Chris Hemsworth made about leaving the role still makes it sound like he’s on the way out too), but rather the Marvel Comics’ version of Thor.

That’s because the latest (and last) issue of Immortal Thor finally went on sale yesterday, and Thor is stabbed to death by Loki during its conclusion.

So, who is replacing Thor, now that Thor is dead? Thor.

Strap in, because it’s time to explain the plot of a comic book.

Following the conclusion of Immortal Thor #25, the series will be replaced by a new series titled The Mortal Thor.

Thor has essentially been reincarnated and now goes by the name Sigurd Jarlson. Sigurd is, from what I can tell, just a dude. No big magic hammer or thunderbolts in sight.

Well, he does have a hammer, but it’s literally just a regular hammer… because he works on a building site. No, this isn’t a very belated April Fool's bit.

Honestly though, the new series looks kind of awesome (although I may have been fooled into thinking that because Alex Ross is doing the cover art for the first three issues). Thor just becoming a regular guy who works on a building site and beats up criminals with tools is also giving me some serious Absolute Batman vibes too.

You can judge the quality of the series for yourself when the first issue of The Mortal Thor goes on sale on July 14th.
