Invincible video game officially shown off in brutal new trailer

We're feeling invincible

It all started with a very sweary and gory moment, then we saw Mark get dragged through traffic by his father, introducing us to the new Invincible game which is... a fighting game!?

That's right, Invincible is a 3V3 fighter featuring the roster from the successful comic book franchise, and Amazon Prime animation.

Shown off with lush visuals that seem to take a leaf out of the Spider-Verse playbook, with framey motion that suits the gorgeous bold style, then the action kicked off, quite literally, with teams of superheroes fighting it out with each other in the streets and various backdrops.

It's bloody and brutal, as expected, and it seems to somewhat follow the story of the comics and show, with the big brawl between Omni-Man and Invincible, though this time Atom Eve rocks up and gives him a hand in the fight.

What we saw, albeit brief, was lovely and colourful, as you would expect, though it was odd to see this as a fighter rather than a Marvel's Spider-Man-style adventure that has you roaming the streets.

Little was shown beyond a few fights with aliens and human villains, but we'd put money on a great story mode appearing here.

It must have been frustrating to know this was waiting in the wings when the new Marvel fighter was shown at Sony's State of Play earlier this week, given they're both team-based fighters vying for a comic book audience.

Still, this will appeal to the Mortal Kombat crowd with its over the top gore and nasty injury detail, in fact, it felt very much like the latest Mortal Kombat outing, so maybe there's some crossover potential.

We'll be keeping our eyes on this one, as fans of the comics and show, and hopefully Invincible will get an open network test at some point for us to have a go.
