In news that will likely come as a delight to Hunger Games fans the world over, both Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to return to the franchise in Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, which is set to release into theatres in late 2026.
That news comes via new revelations from The Hollywood Reporter, with Lawrence set to reprise her role as Katniss Everdeen, while Hutcherson will return as Peeta Mellark, though exactly in what capacity is unspecified.
The new movie adaptation is set to be directed by Francis Lawrence, based on the bestselling Suzanne Collins novel of the same name, that only released in March of this year, with plot points like discussed in private before that date, to allow the movie's producers to get a head start on things.
The cast is already looking pretty stacked, even without the additions of Lawrence and Hutcherson, with Ralph Fiennes as President Snow, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Beetee Latier, Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman, and Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket. Joseph Zada, Glenn Close, Mckenna Grace, Maya Hawke and Whitney Peak are all also set to appear.

Sunrise on the Reaping is a Prequel to the Main Series
As you might have been able to tell by the age of actors in the cast compared to their predecessors in the main series, Sunrise on the Reaping is a prequel that begins on the morning of the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games.
That puts it 24 years before the events of the first novel, meaning that the appearances of Lawrence and Hutcherson may be a surprise to some.
Without wishing to stray into spoiler territory for anyone who hasn't read the book just yet, the appearance of the two characters and where they are likely to do so should be pretty obvious, particularly given the prevalence of a young Haymitch in the story.
The book also serves as a sequel to The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, which covers the earliest throes of the annual ritual of the Hunger Games.
The debut trailer for the upcoming movie was originally shown in November, a year away from its currently scheduled release date of 20 November, 2026.
There hasn't been any official confirmation from either Hutcherson or Lawrence about their potential upcoming appearances, though it seems like only a matter of time before we do get that in some form.
