Harry Potter Reboot Auditioning Female Voldemort, Says Insider

This is going to spark some conversation

The upcoming Harry Potter reboot from HBO is reportedly looking to cast a female Voldemort, claims an insider.

Especially in recent years, Lord Voldemort, played by Ralph Fiennes in the immensely popular live-action movies from Warner Bros., is one of the most iconic villains in all forms of entertainment.

So, with the likelihood of the iconic character being recast in the HBO reboot, no matter who will play the new Dark Lord, it would be a hot topic of conversation, regardless.

Fun fact: Ralph Fiennes is not the only actor to play Lord Voldemort, because Eddie Izzard also played the character in the LEGO video games.

“The series will be a faithful adaptation of the beloved Harry Potter books by author and executive producer J.K. Rowling,” reads the synopsis of the reboot. “Each season will bring Harry Potter to new and existing audiences.”

However, as brought to our attention by the Twitter account ScreenTime, according to movie and entertainment industry insider DanielRPK, both male and female actors are being considered to play the new Lord Voldemort.

“They’re auditioning both men and women for Voldemort, so it’s possible we could see a female Voldemort in the Harry Potter series!” tweeted DanielRPK, with the details being locked behind Patreon.

If a female is cast as Lord Voldemort in the TV series, it wouldn't be the first casting to likely cause a stir on the internet, with Paapa Essiedu playing the new Professor Severus Snape, originally played by the late great Alan Rickman.

In truth, it doesn't matter who is recast as any of the popular Harry Potter characters, because each is so beloved in the movie series, it would be impossible to please everyone, and Lord Voldemort will be no exception.

“As much as I’d hate this, it’ll explain why part of Horcrux was a tiara,” said aarnavg17, raising an interesting point when replying to the tweet from DanielRPK.

“This is going to ensure the demise of the show. I hope they don’t do this,” exclaimed a Twitter user.

“Respectfully, how is Tom Riddle anywhere close to a gender neutral name by ignoring the source material?” asked another. We would assume that if Lord Voldemort is played by a female, her birth name wouldn't be Tom Riddle.

The Harry Potter reboot does not have a release date at the time of writing, but it is widely expected to arrive sometime in 2027. When we get concrete information on that date, we’ll be sure to update you right away.
