Hogwarts Legacy previews dropped earlier this week, revealing a whole load of new information about the wizarding world RPG. However, one new detail could prove to be a bit disappointing for some.
At this point, it’s looking like Hogwarts Legacy is the game that Harry Potter fans have been dreaming for since, well, forever. Players will be able to explore Hogwarts and its surrounding areas to their hearts’ content, befriend students and magical creatures, attend classes, and learn spells.
Simon Pegg will be voicing headmaster Phineas Nigellus Black in the game - meet his character below.
According to a preview from German site GamePro (translated by Google), players will not be able to form romantic connections with any of characters in the game. This had been up in the air for some time since the official Hogwarts Legacy site mentions that players can grow “relationships” with the other characters, but clearly this is on a purely platonic level. This might be a bit disappointing to those who enjoy romancing characters in games like Stardew Valley, although it probably only affects the younger players in this case, since everyone will be playing as students (and therefore would almost certainly only be able to date other students if it was an option).
Advert
Many gamers were already planning on skipping Hogwarts Legacy, albeit for a completely different reason. Some are boycotting the title so as not to support J.K. Rowling, who has been criticised for making harmful comments about the transgender community. She hasn’t been involved in the development of the game, but is still associated with it as the creator of the wizarding world franchise.
It’s less than two weeks to go until release - those who preordered the Deluxe or Collector's Edition on PS5, Xbox Series X/S or PC will be able to play from 7 February due to the 72-hour early-access bonus. The Standard Edition will release on 10 February.
