Another acquisition in the gaming industry may see the highly anticipated Hogwarts Legacy 2 become unplayable for millions.
Earlier this month, Warner Bros. Discovery revealed that it would be splitting into two entities during 2026: WBD Global Networks which would focus on traditional cable television and WBD Streaming and Studios which would handle TV and movie production as well as taking control of the gaming division of Warner Bros. Discovery.
That is all well and good but a recent report by Wccftech reveals that Sony Interactive Entertainment is interested in acquiring WBD Streaming and Studios with an obvious emphasis on its gaming division.

If this goes ahead, it will be big news for Sony who will then be able to access some of the biggest franchises in entertainment such as the DC universe, Harry Potter, and Game of Thrones.
If this acquisition goes ahead, we may not see the effects until at least 2027 but with Hogwarts Legacy 2 still in the early stages of development, these timelines may add up.
As a result, the highly anticipated sequel to Hogwarts Legacy may become a PlayStation exclusive when it is finally released, making it unplayable for millions.
The news would come as a blow to fans as the Harry Potter inspired RPG was the best selling game of 2023 across all platforms.

Of course, exclusives rarely stay exclusive for long these days but it is still disappointing news to those who played Hogwarts Legacy on Xbox Series X/S and PC at launch.
On the other hand, this potential acquisition has not been confirmed by any of the involved parties and should be taken with a pinch of salt. 2027 is a long way away and many things could change ahead of a rumoured acquisition and the release of Hogwarts Legacy 2.
