A Hogwarts Legacy fan believes the highly anticipated sequel will take us to the Chamber of Secrets.
When it comes to games that haven't been officially announced yet, but are still highly anticipated nonetheless, a game that perhaps is at the top of that list is Hogwarts Legacy 2.
From a commercial perspective, Hogwarts Legacy is a huge success for its developer, Avalanche Software, and publisher, Warner Bros. Games. In fact, Hogwarts Legacy is the best-selling release of 2023, not to mention it’s an absolutely delightful game. So, it makes sense that Hogwarts Legacy 2 is around the corner, right?
At this time, we don’t know the answer to that, for sure. We can only assume that it’s because of being in its very early stages of development. That’s assuming that development of Hogwarts Legacy 2 is now underway.
However, job listings at Avalanche Software have hinted that the sequel is in the works, and if the game does happen, WB Games has also suggested that it may have a modern-day setting to coincide with the upcoming Harry Potter series from HBO.
“Theory: Hogwarts Legacy 2 will take place during the first opening of the Chamber of Secrets,” declared Redditor TerribleChair1803.

In a lengthy post, the Reddit user explained that they believe Hogwarts Legacy 2 will take place during the 1940s, centred around when Tom Riddle (Lord Voldemort) was at the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, which is when he first opened the Chamber of Secrets.
They also believe that season two of the Harry Potter series will tell its story of when Tom Riddle opened the Chamber of Secrets, which would make a connection to the HBO series and Hogwarts Legacy 2.
Some say that Corvinus Gaunt, a descendant of Salazar Slytheri was the first known person to open the Chamber of Secrets, but what he knew for sure is that Corvinus at least protected it. Tom Riddle is widely believed to be the person who first accessed it.
“Man, that would be dope,” declared Warwicklord79, with dread-azazel, also agreeing.
“I think you’re wrong. I think one of the great things about Hogwarts Legacy is the departure from the characters that we know. It feels like the writers, and it frees up the players from having to keep canonical facts straight. I think it works great as a standalone game,” replied ItinerantCoconut.
“This would be an awesome gameplay idea, but would also suck because you know from the onset that there is nothing you can do about the Chamber of Secrets. I would also love a game that takes place when Sirius and James were at Hogwarts,” added AutisticDragon.
Absolutely, it could. Yet, going by what WB Games previously said about Hogwarts Legacy 2 having a modern-day setting to coincide with the HBO series, I have my doubts.
The reason being, is that much like the novels and movies, the Harry Potter HBO series will be set in the 1990s, and if what WB Games said comes to fruition, there’s a good chance that Hogwarts Legacy 2 will follow its lead.
That being said, I believe there’s every chance that season two of the Harry Potter series could have flashbacks to when Tom Riddle opens the Chamber of Secrets (as mentioned in the Reddit post), and Hogwarts Legacy 2 might do something similar.
Then, of course, there is the possibility that a curveball will come our way, Hogwarts Legacy 2 won't have a modern-day setting, and it will be set in the 1940s, roughly 50 years after the events of the first game. Only time will tell.
Of course, all of the above is pure speculation at this moment, because the only people who will know for sure are those at Avalanche Software and WB Games. We’ll update you as soon as Hogwarts Legacy 2 is officially announced.
As for the Harry Potter live-action series, that will be streamed on HBO Max and Sky Atlantic in December 2026.
