With the release of the Nintendo Switch 2, many players were eager to get their hands on better versions of games they loved on the older hardware, in the hopes that the upgrades would deliver a new experience.
While this is certainly the case for some, it appears that a few Hogwarts Legacy fans are left feeling disappointed by the Switch 2 upgrade.
If you’re not aware, there’s an option to pay for Switch 2 upgrades, which unlock smoother framerates, better graphics, and new controls methods.

Some players have tried this for Hogwarts Legacy, and it seems the Harry Potter magic is missing from this release.
“The people in it look terrible. Especially their hair. It's all weird and kind of pixelated,” said SusanReadsaLot in their thread on Reddit, after trying the Switch 2 upgrade.
This prompted many to ask if they were playing the correct version of the game, to which they said they’d bought the physical edition, which provides a game key.
The comments from others seem to follow the same thoughts, with one Redditor complaining about the Switch 2 upscaling, saying, “Anyone else find it super distracting how long it takes for the upscaler to improve the image?”

To this, Foshy007 replied, “Some new areas look horrible (in handheld) at first, but then suddenly seem to improve.”
Further into the thread, there are some players commenting that they’ve been impressed on the whole, especially when comparing the performance to other systems.
“It’s slightly blurry but miles better than it was and about on par with PS4, maybe better,” said one user.
As with all launch games, we’re seeing developers getting used to the hardware and future updates will bring improvements.

We could end up seeing large patches as studios begin to pull out more power from the Switch 2, bringing games up to the performance we all hoped to see.
