GTA 6 Surprise Delay Celebrated By PlayStation Devs

At least somebody was celebrating

Ghost of Yōtei is set to be released in just a few weeks but its launch day was something that its developers initially dreaded.

As the highly anticipated sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yōtei will be yet another of 2025’s biggest game releases when it launches on 2 October.

However, there was once a time when this release date would strike fear into its development team and it was all down to Grand Theft Auto VI.

Before it was eventually delayed until 26 May 2026, GTA VI was on track for a fall 2025 release and that ambiguous release date was terrifying for other studios whose games would also be released during this time.

Ghost of Yōtei is one example.

However, as mentioned, GTA VI was delayed and it seems as though Ghost of Yōtei developer Sucker Punch was overjoyed when it heard the news.

"We're all still hungover, multi-month hangover," said Ghost of Yōtei co-creative director Nate Fox in a conversation with MinnMax, "That was a great day."

I don’t know about you but I don’t blame the developers at Sucker Punch for celebrating the GTA VI delay even if they were the only ones to do so.

Although Ghost of Yōtei is a highly anticipated game itself, it is hard to imagine any other upcoming title being able to go head-to-head with the launch of GTA VI considering it is expected to be the biggest game release of all time.

It remains to be seen if any other studios will be feeling brave on or around 26 May next year but let us hope Guerrilla Games does not pop up with Horizon 3 on the same day as its track record would suggest.

For now, there are just eight months to go until Grand Theft Auto VI is finally released but, in the meantime, Ghost of Yōtei will launch on PlayStation 5 on 2 October.
