Hollow Knight: Silksong Drops New Patch That Makes Game Way Easier

Better or worse?

Hollow Knight: Silksong is getting its first official patch to make the game easier, following player criticism.

It was inevitable, unfortunately, as for some players, the new Hollow Knight game is too challenging, and in other areas, it’s too tedious.

I’ve been playing it myself and while I don’t agree with all of the changes being brought in with this new patch, I do agree with some of them.

So what’s changing exactly? Aside from general bug fixes, some of the early-game bosses are being tweaked. The two big ones are the Moorfly and Sister Splinter. The Moorfly is definitely a boss that needed to change, as while it wasn’t impossible, it was annoying to fight with even some of the best players complaining about it.

Another big change on the way affects the in-game economy. There’ll be a slight reduction in mid-game Bellway and Bell Bench prices, as well as increase in rosary rewards from containers. You’ll also earn more rosaries from courier deliveries.

This is the part I most agree with as while the bosses can be overcome with practice and adapting your approach to them, one of the biggest hurdles for me personally is a lack of rosaries to purchase important items and benches. Silksong is already a challenging experience so when I’m forced to choose between a map for my current area or a bench to rest on, it can feel excessive.

The patch notes were shared to the community on Reddit and for the most part it seems like players are happy with the planned changes.

“I beat Moorwing last night. I must have fought it for a good three hours,” said one commenter, “Nice to see it’s being nerfed though. That boss’ second phase was a nightmare and annoying. It hits for two masks.”

Another agreed with my point on rosaries being few and far between, saying, “Silksong is set in a world that nickels and dimes you for everything you have. The only free lunches in the game are the ones that you give out at job boards. It's an oppressive game, and not being able to afford a place to rest reinforces it.”

Honestly, I think this patch is good. It’s making the game easier without taking away from the overall challenge - and the targeted changes against bosses and mechanics players have flagged is a positive sign.

We’ll know for sure when the patch drops and we can experience the changes first-hand, but at a glance, this looks promising.
