This upcoming Steam game is already getting Metroidvania fans pumped, and given how fluid and satisfying its combat looks, it’s easy to see why.

Getting a 100% positive rating on Steam is no small feat. Some games obviously just won’t appeal to certain people, regardless of how good they are, and others just enjoy being contrarian for the sake of it.

So, when anything on the platform manages to get a perfect score, you know the devs must be doing something right.

Acrolyte is an upcoming game from developer and publisher Cyber Komodo, and it looks like a blend between a bunch of bangers, including Hollow Knight, Dead Space and the early 2D Metroid games. You know, the Metroid games were super influential; someone should really name a genre after them or something.

Admittedly, the name could probably do with some work, but everything else about Acrolyte, from its artwork to its punchy twin-stick shooter combat, does look absolutely stellar.

Don’t take my word for it, though. Instead, here’s what the reviewers on Steam have to say about its new demo.

“Instabuy when it comes out, the demo shows me this game has done almost everything right and I feel that it may very well end up being the best ever indie crack taken at a Metroidvania,” writes Steam user Freddy crougar.

“This is an incredibly promising demo. The movement and shooting feel very polished and are exactly what I'd want from a PC Metroid game,” commented user squirrels.

“The pixel art is lovely, the art design is really interesting and weird, and the character and enemy animation are excellent. I'm absolutely looking forward to the full game's release, this deserves more eyes!”

“This is so good, absolutely immaculate vibes and perfect movement and gameplay.

Genuinely the perfect Super Metroid spiritual successor. Can't wait for the full thing,” writes user Mayo.

Y’know, it’s not often I get swayed by reviews on Steam, but I think they might have convinced me to give this one a go this time around.

No word on exactly when this one is set to release, although the team behind it has been releasing playtesting demos for it since October last year.

If you like the look of it and enjoy the demo, make sure you wishlist it, because games like this do have a tendency to suddenly drop out of nowhere with little to no fanfare.
