If you’re looking for some quality alone time this Valentine’s Day, then this 10/10 Steam freebie might be your cup of tea.

Valentine’s Day is nearly upon us and it’s either a day to celebrate or a day of gloom, depending on your perspective. For me, it’s a commercialised day that I refuse to celebrate, and it has nothing to do with it being my birthday. Honestly.

That being said, whether you are or are not celebrating Valentine's Day, there’s a good chance that you might spend that weekend gaming. This freebie on Steam has a really fun blend of horror, graphic novel goodness and cute furry-adjacent art that I'm curious about, at least. Best of all, it's only 30 minutes, which means there's plenty of time for other activities. Minds out the gutter, please.

Check out This Free Steam Valentine’s Day Game!

The free game in question is called A Date With Chester 2, developed and published by the indie team, Chester the Otter (what a name for a studio).

“A Date With Chester 2 is a short, standalone story about remembering the good times. You've been with Chester for a while now. Have things gotten a little too comfortable? It's your anniversary today, and you've got something really special planned. You wonder what he's got in store for you,” reads the synopsis of the game.

To be honest, I’m not sure what to make of A Date With Chester 2, and that’s not a knock. It kind of looks like a graphic novel with some first-person and point-and-click segments. It looks a tad wacky, but I think we could all do with a bit of wacky goodness in our lives from time to time.

At the time of writing, A Date With Chester 2 has a “Positive” rating from 22 Steam user reviews.

Here’s what some of the Steam community had to say:

“10/10,” declared SyrupThinker. “A nice stroll in the park, enjoyed some photos and poetry, and an exciting firework display to finish it off. I would like to go on a date again.”

“An extremely rewarding game that I would recommend to anyone who wants more than just dating in a dating sim. If I could give stars, it would be 5/5 for concept, design, and realisation,” said SpielStern.

“Excellent game!! Cute and then scary and then Quake action!” wrote Cody47220.

The description on the Steam store states that A Date with Chester 2 should only take 30 minutes to an hour to finish, so it’s very short and sweet. It’s also completely free, so if you download and play it, but it’s not your cup of tea, you’ve only lost a bit of time as a worst-case scenario.
