This brand new Red Dead Redemption 2 overhaul is taking aim at one of the game’s most disappointing elements: the local populace (and their terrible fashion sense).

Look, I’m not gonna sit here and pretend that Red Dead Redemption 2 isn’t one of the best games ever made. Every game has its issues, but at the end of the day, RDR 2 deserves a bit more slack than most for some of its shortcomings (considering the sheer scope of what the devs managed to achieve).

That being said, there is one thing that always bugged me about the game. Well, the fact that we never got an Undead Nightmare DLC (or any single-player DLC at all, for that matter) also bugs me. I guess the shooting mechanics feel a little floaty sometimes, too… alright, never mind, there are a few things that bug me.

Point being, Rockstar Games did ever so slightly drop the ball when it comes to pedestrians’ outfits. Now, to be fair, I’m not talking about the outfits themselves– those are great. I’m talking about the fact that NPCs in towns always seem to end up wearing exactly the same outfits as one another.

Admittedly, it’s a small issue. Hardly game-breaking stuff. But considering that Rockstar Games put dozens of hours of development time into making sure that horse testicles accurately react to the weather conditions, it does feel like a weird oversight.

Luckily, someone has decided to take it upon themselves to fix it in a mod titled World And Population over on Nexus Mods.

This mod was put together by YGBRO, the prolific Red Dead Redemption 2 modder who developed several other popular mods for the game, including both Dynamic Ragdoll Behavior and Deadeye Redone.

The aim of World And Population is simple: reshape the world of Red Dead Redemption 2, but "without breaking its style".

YGBRO explains that the mod adjusts a bunch of different settings, including "population logic, horse behaviour, outfit palettes, and shop inventories so that towns, lawmen, and travel feel more grounded."

This includes changing how working horses react to events, giving them more "personality", and altering the outfits for both regular NPCs and lawmen, so that they have a wider range of fits to choose from.

The most impressive part of the mod is that NPCs will now change into different outfits at night, which the mod author states was implemented to improve player immersion.

I hope Rockstar Games is taking note of this one, because I’ll be kinda disappointed if the NPCs in GTA VI end up being copy-pasted clones of each other.
