Hogwarts Legacy 'Expansion' Adds Multiple New Spells

New spells hit the corridors of Hogwarts

Hogwarts Legacy did a great job translating the world of Harry Potter, that fans knew from the books and films, over to an open-world video game format. Though it was obviously set considerably earlier than Harry's school years, it featured so much in the way of recognisable features that the whole thing felt like fan service with an original story (in a good way).

A big part of that is obviously the recognisable features of the castle itself and the surrounding areas like Hogsmeade, but more than that, it's about heading off to classes and learning the same magic that saw Harry, Hermione and Ron manage to come out on top against Voldemort.

That meant that the developers did include plenty of the casts that we know and love, including Protego to keep us safe and Alohamora to gain entry into those pesky locked areas. It's even possible to cast Avada Kedavra for an instant kill, but your character might not be the same afterwards.

All of that in mind, there were plenty of spells that didn't make the cut and, with no further official content on the way from the developer after a Hogwarts Legacy director's cut was sunset, we have to turn elsewhere if we want to see them in the game.

Thankfully, Native Spells Plus is a new mod that aims to start adding some of the more obvious missing enchantments into the game. At the time of writing, downloading the mod will give you access to Reducto, a blasting spell that can blow solid objects to pieces.

The mod has just released with that one additional spell, but there are more on the way, including Expulso, which causes a huge explosion that should disrupt your enemies significantly in combat. The mod's developer has also promised plenty more on the way, though he didn't go as far as naming what spells we can expect.

It seems that the spells we are set to see were originally designed to be included as part of Avalanche Software's original development cycle, but were shelved after time constraints forced them to cut some areas of content. As such, the new spells should feel pretty at home once they have been fully realised in Hogwarts Legacy's combat systems.

The mod is available to download now via CurseForge.
