It surely disappointed a lot of fans that GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 failed to receive single-player expansions. Both games instead leaned heavily into their online components.

It seems, however, that GTA VI may make a return to supporting solo players with additional story content via DLC. According to an insider, Rockstar Games will be bringing back single-player expansions last seen in GTA IV.

We're getting ever closer to the GTA VI reveal, slated for early December.

The report comes from Tez2, a known insider who has been correct on many GTA topics in the past. They recently teased the return of single-player expansions but did add that Rockstar Games could change their minds at any moment.

Tez2 explained that Rockstar had initially wanted to support GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 with more story content via DLC but gave up on the idea in favour of online content. "When you factor in that a single-player DLC was considered for every title since Grand Theft Auto IV, except Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 were never followed through due to the focus on online and work already starting on the next title," the insider pointed out.

Their statement continued by saying, "I don't see why Rockstar wouldn't repeat the same pattern with VI and then decide whether to cut or follow through. But this time, they may do the latter. And it's more of episodic content, aka expansions, than a singular single-player DLC. They can do them yearly or biyearly. Which would help reduce crunch."

Episodic content would work incredibly well for GTA VI especially given the playing field of gaming currently. When you look at many AAA titles nowadays, they are either supported by DLC or function as a live-service game that shifts and changes the core product over time. We could see the online focus of GTA VI evolving much like a Battle Royale and the episodes releasing as seasonal updates.

Hopefully we'll have more to go on in the coming months, once the trailer has dropped in December. As always, take all rumours with a pinch of salt.
