A surprise new free offering has landed on PlayStation Plus’ premium tier, and it’s already generated a very mixed response.
As you’re likely aware, the premium tier is home to Game Trials which are essentially bumper demos.
There demos are often for major new releases with several hours of playtime on offer.
Personally, I don’t think it’s right to lock a demo behind a paywall but alas, I don’t set the rules for PlayStation Plus.
Advert
Anyway, a new Game Trial has landed and you’re going to need to hear me out, but it’s one that Grand Theft Auto VI hopefuls might want to check out.
That Game Trial is for MindsEye with two hours of the game now playable for PlayStation Plus premium users.
“Kate, why would I want to play a certified, well-known flop?” I hear you ask.
Well, MindsEye comes from former Rockstar Games and Grand Theft Auto developer Leslie Benzies.

As you’ll likely recall, MindsEye failed to impress upon release, although perhaps I’m putting it lightly.
It was totally slated by critics and players alike, and sits at a negative score of just 38 on MetaCritic.
Sample 2 Hours of The Controversial Game
Since then, Build a Rocket Boy’s developers have made an attempt to stamp out as many bugs as possible.
I’m not urging you to play MindsEye though because it’s a solid alternative to GTA.
Instead, I wonder if perhaps you’re like me and are morbidly curious to see how a Rockstar Games alum could create something so widely panned.
I don’t want to part with any cash when it comes to sampling MindsEye, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to experience a slither of what it has to offer to see what all the fuss is about.
If you are a premium subscriber, it’s a great cost-free way of indulging this whim.
There are two hours available to play before the Game Trial cuts out, and its mere arrival on PlayStation Plus has already generated some heated discussion amongst gamers.
“I’d love to try it through there. Never spending money on that trash though,” said Reddit user TheRealStevo2.
“That's two hours I'm never getting back, no thank you. But have fun to everyone who's interested,” added Floppyhoofd_.
“It's a very underwhelming game, two hours is more than enough time to make you feel grateful you didn't buy it,” said chaings_.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this one landed on the other tiers in due course.
MindsEye is still charging £54.99 on the PlayStation Store. I can’t imagine this demo is going to convince many to part with that much money.
