GTA 6 release date report roasted by fans

It's a game to be fearful of

Grand Theft Auto VI is, as I’m sure you’re aware, yet to pin down a release date, but it’s far from being the only game to be in that boat.

You see, many titles are withholding that all important date - and it could be GTA VI’s fault.

What Rockstar Games has confirmed is that GTA VI will launch during fall of next year, if all goes ahead as planned and the game isn’t delayed.

That’s fall, or autumn, in the northern hemisphere so we’re talking about the period that stretches from September to November.

I shouldn’t think that GTA VI will be the only major launch to fall within such a period as this is the prime time to instill hype for your game just ahead of The Game Awards.

Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, Ghost of Yōtei, Borderlands 4, and Elden Ring: Nightreign are just a few of the major titles yet to pin down release dates.

Of course, there are hundreds of game yet to specify when they’ll be launching, and it could just be that devs don’t want to make empty promises when delays could surface, but Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier previously suggested that it was the potential threat of releasing alongside GTA VI that had many studios and publishers holding back.

Elden Ring: Nightreign is a new co-op adventure.

“Anticipation is so high that some competing game publishers are waiting as long as possible to commit to their release dates for the fall,” Schreir detailed.

He noted that this information came from sources who did not wish to be identified - presumably holding positions at various publishers.

“The publishers want to see whether GTA VI will make its deadline or slip into 2026, these people say, and they’re determined to keep their own games far, far away," Schreier added.

Well, this report has caught the attention of the GTA VI community who are, fair to say, feeling pretty good about being a fan of one of the most hyped franchises in the industry.

“It's funny, but I get it. If I'm a game developer, there's no way in hell that I want to compete directly with Rockstar,” wrote Reddit user Hellraiser1123.

“Since it’s coming out towards the end of the year, Rockstar should wait until like a week before launch to announce the release date so that nobody releases any games at all for the year out of fear,” joked itsRobbie_.

“So Rockstar is essentially holding every other game developer hostage,” noted MrNightmare23.

It certainly seems that way.

I just hope that if my beloved Horizon franchise has a surprise new launch coming next year, it doesn’t release the same week as GTA VI. That series has been through enough.
