The wait for Grand Theft Auto VI has been so unbearable that some fans are recreating it with original PlayStation graphics.
While they don’t hold up so well nowadays the artstyle you used to see on the PS1 was something special.
At the time it was mind-blowing to see worlds and characters rendered in full 3D and it’s partly why the Grand Theft Auto series is so successful today.
If the series hadn’t made the jump from a top-down 2D look to the 3D we saw in Grand Theft Auto III I don’t think we’d be eagerly awaiting GTA VI as we are now.

GTA VI as we all know will take us back to one of the locations where it all started, Vice City. We of course last saw Vice City on the PS1 so it’ll be nice to revisit the iconic setting and see what’s new, aside from the graphical glow-up.
Before we get there though, an artist recently released a snippet of the GTA VI trailer remade in the style of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and I just had to share it.
The video released by Jushton on YouTube oozes with nostalgia, to the point where I sort of want a cheat code for GTA VI that reverts it back to this classic artstyle.
The short video shows us a low-polygon version of Lucia, a few remodelled buildings and a recreation of the jetski/boat shot from the trailer, as well as other snippets.

Like I said this PS1 aesthetic hasn’t aged very well but as someone who grew up on these games I’ll always look past the graphics, as the feeling it gives me is unbeatable.
Other fans have put together some side-by-side shots of original Vice City locations compared to what they look like now, and it’s only the tip of the iceberg as we’re still yet to see some raw, unedited gameplay for GTA VI.
There’ll also be some brand-new locations that couldn’t be found in the original Vice City game, so that’s exciting in itself.
Rockstar Games has come a long way since its early days and while the graphics have only gotten better with the latest hardware advancements, the studio’s greatest strength has always been the general vibe of its games.
Its open-worlds are always a treat to explore regardless of what they look like.
I hope an original port of GTA: Vice City gets released alongside the next game. I’d love to go back to it on modern platforms.
