A former PlayStation boss has issued a stark warning over the potential price of GTA VI.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you will not only be well aware that Rockstar Games finally announced the long-awaited release date for GTA VI, but yesterday, we were also treated to its epic second trailer.
The second trailer for GTA VI was so incredible that it could have easily passed as a live-action movie. To say that fans are hyped for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series would be an understatement.

It’s no secret that the cost of almost everything in life continues to spiral out of control, and video games are no exception. Within the last year, we’ve seen big price hikes across all platforms, including PlayStation.
It has long been speculated that GTA VI could be the first game to sell at £90 to £100 for a standard edition, not a Deluxe or Collector’s Edition. This prospect feels more likely after Nintendo increased the price of its Switch 2 games, with Microsoft quickly following suit on Xbox.

As reported by PlayStation Inside, the domino effect is gaining momentum as the former PlayStation president, Shuhei Yoshida, has warned that a balance needs to be found.
“Everything in video games today is more advanced and more technologically demanding than ever before, and therefore requires more resources,” Yoshida told PlayStation Inside.
“Each publisher or manufacturer sets the price of its games, of course, but in the end, the heart of the matter lies in production costs. It’s a kind of ‘easy’ solution to bring on profits that ultimately help finance new games.”
“So, I don’t know if Rockstar will jump at the chance to set the price of GTA VI at €90 or more, to speak with your currency, but the situation is this… a balance must be found between production costs and game prices,” he continued.

“GTA VI will obviously be a case in point, but if you take the example of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the game is just as phenomenal visually, despite the fact that the team only has around 30 people.”
We’ll just have to wait and see to find out how much we’ll have to pay for GTA VI. Hopefully, we’ll learn that information long before its big release.
Grand Theft Auto VI will be released on 26 May 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. It’s PC version is yet to be announced.
