GTA 6 set to introduce major new multiplayer feature

One door closes, another opens

It looks as if Rockstar Games is set to incorporate a very popular multiplayer feature into Grand Theft Auto VI.

If you’re a GTA fan, then you’ve most likely heard of Social Club.

It’s essentially a social tie-in, allowing users to connect with fellow fans, track their in-game progress, share screenshots and videos, and engage with other various social features.

Or, I should say, it was.

In what’s an unexpectedly shocking move, it looks as if Rockstar is set to shutter Social Club, but it may be for a very good reason.

As reported by ComicBook, Social Club has essentially disappeared overnight with very few features remaining.

Visiting the website simply redirects you back to Rockstar Games’ main homepage, with fans no longer able to view profiles or fellow users.

This seems pretty damn weird, especially considering that GTA Online continues to thrive, with many of its players also using Social Club.

The going theory though is that perhaps Social Club has been shuttered as the features it offers may finally be available natively in-game when it comes to GTA VI.

This is, I will stress, just a theory, but it’s long been rumoured that GTA VI will have some kind of in-game social media, particularly due to the trailer’s heavy presence of smart phones.

Imagine if Social Club returned but screenshots and messages were shared in-game.

Befriending fellow players and adding one another directly from your in-game mobile would be huge when it comes to GTA VI’s inevitable online mode.

A successor to GTA Online is yet to be announced, but it feels like one is a matter of when and not if.

Despite what this could signal for the future, fans are definitely sad to lose Social Club in its current form.

“End of an era, oh my gosh,” wrote X/Twitter user JDCowboys2.

“This makes me sad. They could’ve kept updating it and even implemented cross platform like Destiny 2 did,” added BigPete7978.

I’m sure bigger and better things are on the way.
