Star Wars fans heartbroken to learn what happened to Battle Droids after the Prequels

Roger-rog... oh

Fans have found out what happened to the Battle Droids after the Star Wars prequels, and it’s a rather sad story for them.

One of the highlights of the Star Wars prequel films was seeing all the droids, in new shapes and sizes, and the separatist Battle Droids were iconic.

Their catchy ‘roger-roger’ became a quote for me and my friends, parroted out in that oddly nasal voice, and their action on-screen allowed for some wry smiles.

The fate of these droids is not a happy one, and it’s all revealed over on Reddit after one fan asked what could have happened to them once the Empire was created.

One answer came from InsaneTechnomancer, who said, “The majority of them shut down after Anakin shut down the master control signal. Some of these deactivated droids were later reactivated and reprogrammed to serve various crime syndicates across the galaxy.”

I’m sure living a life of crime wasn’t the best outcome for the droids who were programmed for other purposes.

Looking at some of the books, there’s an answer there too, according to RustedAxe88, who replied, “Some were hijacked by individual groups. Like, the Bedlam Raiders. Someone on Ryloth also reprogrammed them to combat the Empire. Might have been Hera Syndulla's father, my memory is fuzzy of that novel.”

Another, more in-canon answer came from NeoDart17, who explained, “There are a couple episodes in Bad Batch if you’re strictly wanting a canon answer. One episode in season one featured a melting factory for decommissioned droids.”

Surely that’s a much darker outcome for the droids, ending up on a scrap heap, then melted down to their base metals.

It wasn’t a happy ending for the Battle Droids, but then, it wasn’t a happy ending for anyone when Episode III: Revenge of the Sith came to a close.

The droids weren’t the only ones melted down, right Anakin?
