To this day, it remains a great shame that Titanfall 3 doesn’t exist.
That’s unlikely to change but 1047 Games is doing its best to remedy the issue by developing what they hope to be a worthy spiritual successor.
Empulse is an upcoming 6v6 movement shooter which is set to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S later this month on 24 June.
“Outmove and outgun your opponents across the post-utopian streets of Freehold, chain wall-runs into grapple swings into mid-air kills, and fight for Crews to control mechs for the ultimate power spike,” reads the game’s synopsis.

As you can likely already grasp, movement is key in Empulse.
Thankfully, you’ll have plenty of tricks at your disposal including the abilities to wall-run and grapple.
Players will be able to make use of jetpacks and holojumps too which should provide verticality to your movement.
Empulse also includes ‘P.A.I.N.T. Bombs’ with jump, speed, explosive, heal, and sticky variants allowing you to reshape any surface to fit the purpose that you need.

Of course, Empulse hopes to follow in Titanfall’s footsteps so it also includes mechs.
You won’t automatically be handed a mech. In fact, they’re the most contested item out there on the battlefield.
Spawning mid-match, obtaining one of the game’s two mechs could see you completely change the tide of battle.
Each mech comes with a chaingun, rocket, deployable bubble shield, and charge jump, plus you can simply carry out melee attacks.
Empulse is launching in early access when it lands later this month, so don’t expect a perfect package.
In the coming months, developers hope to add new modes, maps, weapons, mechs, meta playstyles, and more.
“As a reminder, we are shipping Empulse in Early Access because the best version of this game is the one we build with you,” devs wrote on Steam.
“From day one we will be in the game alongside the community, reading feedback, and shipping updates on a steady cadence based on player insight.
“Building out in the open lets us move fast and prioritise what players are actually asking for, instead of locking plans to a roadmap set in stone months prior.
“The more you play, report, and pitch, the better Empulse becomes.”
There won’t be any battle passes or microtransactions at launch with all in-game rewards obtained through progression and events which is great to see.
As mentioned, a demo has arrived ahead of the game’s official release offering you a free taster of the title.
We recently had the chance to go hands-on ourselves.
“I thought Empulse was fantastic,” GAMINGbible’s Sam Cawley remarked after going hands-on at Summer Game Fest.
“Like many, I thoroughly miss the multiplayer days of the Xbox 360, and by extension the PlayStation 3, and Empulse feels like the kind of arcade-y shooter modern gaming has been missing.
“It’s not the only game that’s trying to bring back the glory days, of course, but so far it’s doing a damn good job of it.”
There’s no word on how long Empulse’s demo is sticking around for. It’ll likely be a few weeks but it’s perhaps safer to dive into this one sooner rather than later.
