Earlier this year, a highly-anticipated sequel landed somewhat under the radar.
Developed by Squanch Games, High on Life 2 launched on 13 February 2026, a little over three years after its predecessor.
Just a couple of months on and PC users now have the opportunity to try this high-octane FPS out for free courtesy of a brand new demo that’s landed on Steam.
If you’re not familiar with the High on Life franchise, it sees players take control of zany talking weapons including an alien gun and knife.

They’ll crack out quips, jokes, and sound effects as you work your way through this comedic adventure.
You don’t need to have played High on Life in order to enjoy the sequel as it does a pretty good job of recapping events - plus it’s not as if people partciualrly play High on Life for the narrative, as decent as it is.
“You’ve done it. You’ve taken down an intergalactic cartel, brought humanity back from the brink of extinction, and hunted dangerous bounties to the far corners of the galaxy,” begins the synopsis.
“Bounty hunting has brought you fortune, fame and love; but when a mysterious figure from your past reappears and puts a price on your sister’s head, your cushy life gets thrown into chaos.
“Do you have what it takes to risk it all and bring down an intergalactic conspiracy that once again threatens your favorite species (humans)?”
The demo includes the first two of the game’s missions and then if you do choose to pick the full title up, all save progress will carry over.
That only applies to the same platform though, with High on Life 2’s demo also having landed on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
So if you play the Steam demo, save data will only carry over to the Steam version of the full game and so on.
The demo should take you around an hour to complete, perhaps slightly under that time if you breeze through with skill.

The full version of High on Life 2 will set you back $59.99 / £49.99, so this is a great chance to trial what is a pretty pricey purchase.
High on Life 2 fared decently well at launch even if it didn’t blow critics away. It sits at a score of 70 on Metacritic for PC, although did secure a score of 75 for the Xbox Series X/S version.
GameRant awarded a score of 80, writing, “In the end, High on Life 2 understands what made the original work and pushes it forward in ways that actually matter.”
Insider Gaming landed on the exact same score: “High On Life 2 builds on the original with faster, more creative gameplay, stronger writing, and inventive traversal, delivering a vibrant and frequently hilarious sci-fi shooter. While technical issues and a divisive ending might hold it back, its memorable characters and varied missions make it a standout sequel.”
On the other hand, Eurogamer was far more critical, giving High on Life 2 a score of 60. It said: “The sequel to Squanch Games' detestable FPS demonstrates significant improvement, though its biggest features remain its weakest - and technical issues hinder the progress made.”
