Despite being one of the most recognisable figures in the Star Wars universe, not much is actually known about Yoda, especially with regards to his home world and species.

Yoda has gone on to become one of the most recognisable characters in fiction and as one of the most powerful Jedi in existence, there is no wonder that fans want to learn all there is to know about him.

However, with George Lucas reportedly making it clear that Yoda’s home world should never be discussed within the Star Wars universe, many of the Jedi’s origins have been left to speculation.

This discussion has surfaced again following a post previously made on r/MawInstallation.

“Is Yoda’s home world and species a secret to people in-universe as well?” user Vavent posted.

“Obviously Yoda’s home world and the name of his species has always been a secret to us viewers, and probably/hopefully always will be. But is it the same for the characters themselves? Does Yoda actually go out of his way to keep these things secret, or could you ask, for example, a member of the Jedi Council and get a real answer? Or perhaps it’s common knowledge among Jedi at least, but we’re just never shown them discussing it?”

Based on the reaction to Grogu in The Mandalorian, Yoda’s species is indeed rare across the Star Wars universe but based on their power, it would make sense that their home world remained a mystery to all as a way to stop Sith lords such as Palpatine heading there to enslave the race.

User FluffyProphet had an interesting piece of information to share; as it turns out, some of the species' lore was previously quietly confirmed.

“According to the Complete Visual Dictionary, Yoda kept it an absolute secret. No one outside of his species would have any clue where to even start looking for them," they said, confirming that the species does indeed seek to conceal itself.

As George Lucas has made it clear that Yoda’s home world will never be explored, we may only ever have speculation when it comes to his origins.

However, it does beg the question as to why even Yoda was adamant to keep it a secret. What about his home world did he not want anybody to find out?

Well, maybe one day the wait will pay off and Lucas, or his successors, will reveal all.
