It is hard to believe that it has already been a year since The Acolyte wrapped up and was unfortunately never renewed for a second season.
It was a huge blow for fans as despite some criticism, The Acolyte garnered an impressive fan base and positive reviews across its first and only season.
However, the Star Wars project that was set long before the events of The Phantom Menace, was unfortunately cancelled and what is even more heartbreaking is that it was set to have multiple seasons.
This news comes after its star, Manny Jacinto, spoke to Collider’s Maggie Lovitt late last year.

Jacinto planned that there were big plans for The Acolyte.
“I remember Leslye’s [Headland] dream was for us to do three seasons, not just this one…,” he shared.
“But there’s something about having a finite ending to things that makes it so much more special.
So, yeah, I don’t know if I’d do it or not, but you know, three seasons and a movie would have been incredible, and I know we had so much more to explore with that second season.”

It is heartbreaking news indeed, especially as The Acolyte explored a Star Wars timeline that we had not yet seen before and even some backstory for the iconic Darth Plagueis who was spotted at the end of season one.
News of the potential of three seasons broke over on r/television and as you can guess, fans were less than happy with what could have been.
“I really hope they can allow Manny Jacinto to flesh out more of his character. I was really digging his performance,” one user shared.
Another user had their own thoughts, adding, “It should have been a movie series. I think the show's biggest fault was how they wrote very little content, but stretched it out into a series. So episodes did nothing but set up the next episode. Or episodes that rehashed events from a different perspective.

The core of the story could have worked.”
Regardless, The Acolyte becomes just one of many television shows that have been axed before their prime over the years.
Hopefully the same can’t be said for any more future Star Wars projects.
