It is safe to say that the Star Wars universe is pretty expansive thanks to the multiple movies, television shows, comic books, and video games that are set in the galaxy far, far away.

As a result, it is often easy to forget that some iconic characters never actually come into contact with each other, despite their stories being so intrinsically linked.

Well, that is definitely the case for two Star Wars characters who despite becoming firm friends, the end of their story is heartbreaking to say the least.

This comes after one user took to r/StarWars to ask, “What is a random canon Star Wars fact that a casual fan may not know about?”

Of course it was not long before the hardcore Star Wars fans descended onto the comments with their fun facts but it was one that stood out, purely because of how sad it is when the realisation dawns on you.

“When Anakin landed on Mustafar he told R2-D2 he would be right back, but never returned...Hence why R2-D2 would not wait on the X-wing when on Dagobah,” user HarlockJC revealed.

What makes this all the more heartbreaking is when you realise that R2-D2 and Darth Vader never even met and we can safely assume that the robot still thought that Anakin had died way after he had become the Sith Lord.

We can imagine that there would be some sad beeps from R2-D2 after learning the news.

However, maybe it is best that the robot did not learn of Anakin’s true fate.

Either way, it is still a shocking revelation to realise that these two iconic Star Wars characters never even “met” and leads you to question who else never actually came into contact throughout the various movie instalments.

With the Star Wars universe still expanding to this day, there is no doubt that many more revelations such as these will come to light but let us just hope they are not all as heartbreaking as this one.
