'GTA 6' Is Aiming For "Photorealism", Says Leaker

The Grand Theft Auto VI leaks continue to drop and now we know more about the game's look.

The Grand Theft Auto VI leaks are coming faster than you can say Rockstar Games. After years of radio silence, we’re finally starting to get an idea of what GTA VI might look like, albeit unofficially. The game is allegedly due to have a “cleaned up” tone and will feature a female protagonist. It’s also rumoured to be set in Vice City and now we know what kind of aesthetic the game will take on.

To get an idea of what I’m talking about, check out this incredible Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas fan trailer created in Unreal Engine 5.

According to leaker Tez2 (via Dexerto), GTA VI is aiming for photorealism which isn’t wholly unsurprising. The Grand Theft Auto franchise has always opted for a fairly realistic look, as far as technology has allowed anyway. San Andreas’ CJ may look a little pixelated but the idea was to make him look as human as possible. Given the capability of game engines today, it seems like a natural progression that Rockstar are trying to hone in on photorealism.

According to Dexerto, Tez2 took to a GTA forum to write, “An ex Rockstar dev mentioned to a friend that [GTA 6] will be very much into photorealism. That’s about the only hint he gave since it’s very much obvious and common sense.” Like I said, this is totally what we expected from the series, but it’s nice to know that Rockstar is aiming high.

We know what the studio is capable of. You need only look at Red Dead Redemption 2 which offers stunning graphics. Seeing as technology has another three years of development under its belt, I’m sure we’ll see every freckle and wrinkle that GTA VI has to offer.
