The GTA community is arguing again, following one veteran Grand Theft Auto developer’s comments about GTA VI’s potential framerate.
Once again, I come to you with breaking news: GTA VI fans are mad again.
Alright, to be fair, that’s hardly news. These dorks argue about everything from the cycles of the moon to Rockstar Games-branded tote bags, but this week is a little different.
You see, for once, they actually have some decent information to argue about, because an ex-Rockstar Games dev has decided to weigh in on Grand Theft Auto VI’s potential framerates on consoles.

As detailed in an article by GamesRadar+'s Scott McCrae, Obbe Vermeij (known for his work on Grand Theft Auto IV, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and Grand Theft Auto III) has revealed why exactly he thinks GTA VI might target 30fps.
In reply to a commenter asking why it might be “difficult for GTA VI to reach 60fps on base consoles”, Vermeij replied stating that fans “might prefer” the 30fps option.
“It's a trade off,” Vermeij stated on Twitter.
“At 30fps you can render twice as many polygons compared to 60fps. For a competitive action game you'd always go for the high frame rate but for GTA, you might prefer the visual details.”

Wow, what a levelheaded, straightforward statement. I’m sure fans are taking this in their strid– oh, never mind, the comments over on r/GTA6 are a minefield.
“All I know is that people will stop crying and moaning about fps the second the game releases,” commented user Dry-Fault-5557.
“30fps games are only a problem to PC elitists who will legitimately cry and refuse to play any game even if it is the best game of all time if it can’t hit 60fps minimum,” replied user Ori_the_SG.
Personally, I think this is a bit of a pointless conversation for the time being.

I’d be very, very surprised if GTA VI doesn’t launch with both a 30fps setting that focuses on graphical fidelity, and a 60fps “performance” setting.
But until we know for sure, I think it’s not really worth arguing about.
Discuss it, sure, but for the time being, you’re only tilting at windmills.
