Valve is apparently “on track” to deliver the goods later this year, as the Steam Machine is apparently still set for an early 2026 launch.
Announced back in November, Valve’s second-generation Steam Machines were revealed with a release window of early 2026, likely placing it within a March – May window.
However, Valve went quiet following this announcement, with very little information about the Steam Machine cropping in the months afterwards.
With the recent RAM and GPU shortages affecting pretty much every aspect of the tech industry, rumours of a potential Steam Machine delay have also been spread in related discussion boards as a result of this.
Steam Machine Could Still Be Released In Just A Few Weeks
AMD, however, has suggested that this won’t be the case. In the company’s most recent earnings call, CEO Lisa Su said that Valve is “on track” to begin shipping the console (via IGN).
Advert
“In gaming, revenue increased 50% year-over-year to $843 million,” reads the full quote from Su. “Semi-custom sales increased year-over-year and declined sequentially as expected.
“For 2026, we expect semi-custom SoC annual revenue to decline by a significant double-digit percentage as we enter the seventh year of what has been a very strong console cycle. From a product standpoint, Valve is on track to begin shipping its AMD-powered Steam Machine early this year.”

Even with the rising cost of PC components being as they are, it seems like Valve will still launch the Steam Machine within that early 2026 window. But don’t expect a price tag.
RAM now costs hundreds of dollars more than they did a few months ago. The same can also be said of graphics cards, and other PC components.

Suffice it to say, it’s not a great time to get into PC gaming as a newcomer. Not only are the prices of PC hardware going up, but availability is running dry.
Price estimates for the Steam Machine suggests that the final cost could end up being Over $1000 for the 2TB model. At that point, I’d say you may as well just buy a PS5, but even those might go up in price.
With the release window looming closely upon us, all eyes are on Valve to release a price update for the Steam Machine. It should happen in the next few weeks, assuming no delays, in order to have a smooth pre-order and launch window.
