If you've even been vaguely following the price of PC components over the last few months then you'll be aware that RAM in particular has shot up in value thanks to the demand from AI data centres using up all the supply.

That's why the announcement of the Steam Machine was a tricky one for consumers, who weren't sure if the company would be able to deliver the hardware at a cost that would make it worth buying over a normal PC.

Now, it seems as though the price of the upcoming PC/ console has been leaked online, and it doesn't look like it's good news for those who wanted something at a price similar to the current console range from Sony and Xbox.

Steam Machine 2TB Model Could Cost Over $1000

Over on Reddit, one user shared a post from a Czech retailer, which seemingly accidentally leaked the price of the upcoming Steam Machine.

The listings clock-in at 19,826 CZK for the 512GB model and 22,305 CZK for the 2TB model, or $950 USD and $1070 USD respectively, at current conversion rates.

That's considerably more expensive than either the PlayStation 5 Pro or Xbox Series X and could be a huge disappointment for fans of Valve’s products who were hoping for something of a similar ilk.

The comments below had plenty of people claiming they wouldn't be buying the new release at that price, with one saying, "DOA at that price. I want this and I'm definitely in the market for it, but only if its gonna be around base PS5 price, there is no way they can charge more than $600 for it.

Another added, "Yeahhh.. I was hyped for this and I saw the vision(especially with how I only use my Steam Deck when it's docked really) but it's impossible to justify spending 1000$ on this imo. I'd rather put down the extra 500-750$ to put together my own PC."

Realistically, the idea that they were going to be able to match the prices of Sony and Xbox, given the likely scale of operations, was always a little farfetched.

The caveat here being that this is unconfirmed, so they could be placeholder prices ahead of full confirmation when the machines start being rolled out to retailers. Fingers crossed that is the case, and we can all have lovely Steam Machine's for less than the price of a second hand car.
