Valve’s Steam Machine is one of the most exciting hardware drops we’ve had in a long time, as unlike the next Xbox or PlayStation, this console feels brand-new.

The Steam Machine aims to deliver a PC-like gaming experience in your living room, played on your big TV with a controller but with all of the amenities PC gaming can offer like mods and games you can only play with desktop controls.

Valve is about to release its new Steam Controller which should give us a taste of what gaming on the Steam Machine will be like.

For $99, you’re getting a controller with trackpads like what you’ll find on the Steam Machine. This means games that use mouse and keyboard controls can still be played without said apparatus which is one of the core selling points of the new console.

A Positive Release Update For The Steam Machine

Gamers have been patiently waiting for Valve to announce the release date for the Steam Machine, but the recent Steam Controller announcement implies a partial shadowdrop could be on the cards.

Prior to the reveal, it was reported that Valve had been receiving a number of shipments for something controller-related and shortly after, the release date of the new controller was leaked prompting an official reveal.

Now it’s claimed Valve is receiving shipments of consoles which is interesting by itself, but even more so when you closely examine the latest SteamOS update.

Cary Golomb shared a screenshot of the new update on X and as you’ll see below one line states it adds: "Even more support for upcoming Steam Machine hardware.”

While it’s not unusual that Valve would prepare the Steam Store for the Steam Machine’s arrival, the timing couldn’t be more convenient or suspicious.

It’s now widely believed that the Steam Machine's release date is much closer than we initially believed.

“If this is like the Steam Controller, then there’s a good chance Machines just shipped out to reviewers. We should be hearing more in two-ish weeks,” speculated Jourden Reid in the replies. “They’re literally teasing us,” said RN.

Why Buy A Steam Machine?

As exciting as the Steam Machine is, it won't be for everyone.

It’s ideal for those who purchased the Steam Deck and enjoy using it while connected to the TV as it cuts out the middle man of needing a dock to plug the handheld into.

Many also believe it’ll be the more affordable option for those who want to go all-in on PC gaming, especially when Xbox’s upcoming next-gen hybrid console is rumoured to cost a fortune.

Sure the Steam Machine won’t be as powerful as the next Xbox, but in a hobby that’s getting more and more expensive with every passing year, there’s a case to be made for affordability over performance.
