GTA V has seen a rapid influx of players recently and it’s all thanks to the spooky season and the game’s new Halloween mode.

It could be in part because everyone loves Halloween, but it also could be thanks to an area of the map that's making a welcome return.

Halloween has come to GTA Online and the players are flooding back.

The latest update has players coming back in droves, with GTA V Online recently recording a whopping player count of 1.2 million.

The online mode of the world’s biggest game is always popular, but like any live-service game, it has peaks and troughs.

Massive in-game events are a sure-fire way to get players back in the streets and remembering how much they love to play.

Essentially, the new game event is a survival mode where you face off against waves of zombies in GTA V's North Yankton, an area from the prologue.

If there’s one thing many of us love, it’s a survival mode, especially if we can play with friends.

Long-term fans of Rockstar Games will find the new Halloween mode familiar as it pays homage to Undead Nightmare, the zombie-filled DLC for Red Dead Redemption.

According to GTAO Stats, the concurrent player count rose to 1.2 million over the past few days, while the game mode brought in around 2.5 million players in total.

That’s quite a feat for a 10-year-old game that is moving through what we assume to be its final years before the launch of GTA VI Online.

Events are a great way to bring back players, especially if they’ve lapsed over the last few years.

Any good live-service game knows when to press the button and launch content to give old and new players something fresh.

As the game winds down, we will start to look at the future of the franchise with GTA VI and hope that we see a new trailer before the year is out.
