God of War Laufey is the next exciting entry in the God of War series, but it’s so much more than a spin-off.
The new game from Santa Monica Studios takes us right back to the start of God of War (2018), where Faye dies, and her soul transcends to the afterlife.
However, it’s said the story will run parallel to Kratos and Atreus’ adventures throughout the Nine Realms, and a word from Faye’s actress, Deborah Ann Woll, suggests it’ll have more ties to those stories than we originally thought.
Speaking at Game Con Canada (via Comics Gaming Magazine), the God of War and Daredevil: Born Again star recalled what it was like when God of War Laufey was first presented to her.
Deborah Ann Woll said, “I’ve known about this for nearly ten years, and I haven’t been able to talk about it.

“[Cory Barlog] pitched it to me in 2018, and they had known about it before then. It’s wild. Like when Cory brought me in to talk about doing Ragnarök and show me the 2018 game, he already had a poster for the Laufey game with me and a cube. A cube that’s been there since the beginning. It’s deeply a part of the lore.”
In case you missed it, the cube she’s referring to is the talking jelly cube voiced by Jack Quaid. We’d die for him.

Like other God of War fans, we’re excited to see what awaits Faye on her journey through the Everywhen. It’s the place where gods go when they die, so we’re expecting to see some familiar faces from the OG God of War games.
What’s especially interesting about Deborah Ann Woll’s words, though, is how God of War Laufey was planned around the same time the first Norse game was released.
From what we’ve seen and heard so far, it looks like those glaring plot holes and mysteries from both the 2018 game and God of War Ragnarök were actually planned from the start.
With any luck, this’ll also mean the game has been in development for a while and is launching soon…

Back to the lore, though, it’s already being theorised that it was Faye who summoned the World Serpent in the first game, and perhaps she’ll have a part to play in Ragnarök too.
We’d also like to see some flashbacks to how Faye first came across Kratos when he arrived in her lands. The pair are said to have fought each other at first, so a boss fight against the God of Sparta would probably break the internet.
Faye’s a titan in a fight, too. As those who’ve played the necessary side-content in God of War Ragnarök will know, she once pummelled Thor into a stalemate.
There’s still so much we don’t know about the Norse God of War games, though it sounds like God of War Laufey will finally give us the answers we’ve been seeking when it launches…
