God of War Laufey is a bold new spin-off that’ll tell us exactly what happened to Kratos’ wife Faye after she died, but that’s not the only mystery it’ll solve.
We were thoroughly impressed with what we saw of the new God of War game at PlayStation’s latest State of Play showcase, but it left us with so many questions.
Following the presentation the Head of Creative at Santa Monica Studios Corey Barlog, has spoken at length about the new title, and what else we can expect from Faye’s spin-off spiritual journey.
Anyone who has played the God of War games will know time is a fickle thing in the canon. It gets even crazier in the Norse Saga with time travel, alternate realms and a lot of snakes eating their own tales.
According to Barlog, God of War Laufey is going to get even weirder, and no, we’re not just talking about the Jack Quaid jelly cube.

In an interview with IGN, Barlog said Laufey has “direct connections to everything” we’ve seen from the Norse games before it.
He continued, "None of this is like we're telling a side story. This is all a new chapter in the same book, a massive book, and we are starting to show that this has more than you could have imagined.”
This has the potential to change everything we know about the series so far, as well as provide answers to those burning questions we are still wrestling with.

The horn in question is the one found on Tyr's Temple in God of War (2018). Kratos, Atreus and Mimir use it to summon Jörmungandr, also known as the World Serpent.
Later in the game, when Kratos is carrying an unwell Atreus back to Freya’s home, the horn is blown again by someone or something off-screen. It’s never been revealed who summoned Jörmungandr, but many assumed it was Baldur or one of the other Aesir gods.
Given how time appears to be in flux for Faye, there’s a good chance she’ll be the unseen force who helped Kratos and Atreus on occasion, and the person who summoned Jörmungandr for reasons unknown.
That’s all speculation of course, and we’ll know more when the game drops, though when that will be is currently unknown.
No release window was given during State of Play but many are assuming it’ll drop sometime in 2027. Though others believe it’ll launch earlier.
