A God of War mystery has finally been settled as to what the World Serpent said to Kratos and Atreus seven years ago.

Ever since its inception in 2005 on the PlayStation 2, Santa Monica Studio’s God of War series has been one of the main properties on the blue brand. In fact, the series has become one of the biggest and most popular names in the video game industry as a whole.

In 2018, the series had somewhat of a soft reboot on PlayStation 4, with Kratos moving from Greek mythology and into the world of Scandinavia’s Norse mythology. Not that Kratos had much choice, because he pretty much killed all the Gods of Olympus.

Without giving too much away, Kratos attempted to live a quiet life with his new family, which included his son, Atreus. Unfortunately for our God of War, trouble quite literally came knocking at his door.

There was one particular memorable encounter in God of War (2018) with Jörmungandr, aka the World Serpent. However, he spoke in a language not known to the common person. For years, fans have speculated that the World Serpent had said to Kratos and Atreus, but much of that was speculation.

What did Jörmungandr say in God of War?

As reported by TheGamer, we finally know exactly what was said in the Lake of Nine, courtesy of a script sent to the Writers Guild of America Awards in 2019, recently shared by writer and former WGA council member Tian Jun Gu.

In a three-minute clip shared on Reddit, in a nutshell, World Serpent is annoyed by Kratos and Atreus bothering him, especially as they did not speak his language.

“Do not trouble me again, little god, until you have a tongue with which to speak with me", he said.

Returning with Mimir later in the game, he was able to communicate with Jörmungandr, eventually gaining access to Jotunheim in their pursuit to end Odin, once and for all. Jörmungandr also says that he feels Atreus is recognisable somehow, before Mimir quickly shuts down that potentially awkward conversation.

So, there you have it, if you’ve ever wondered what was said during the intense conversations with Kratos, Atreus and Mimir, now you know.

God of War (2018) and its sequel, God of War Ragnarök, are both out now on PC and modern PlayStation consoles, as is the free Ragnarök DLC, Valhalla. The third entry in the Norse trilogy hasn't been announced yet.
