Former developers from the Halo and Call Of Duty series have teamed up to create a brand new FPS IP, Sentinel, created with Unreal Engine 5.

Taking place in an entirely new world, the player takes on the role of a “space viking” fighting off an alien threat that has pushed humanity to the brink of extinction. Navigating a vast and dangerous planet, the player will need to utilise various weapons, grenades and melee combat to prevail against hostile creatures.

Development team Pathless Productions, shared a video showcase of what the game currently looks like, and despite it still being quite early in its life cycle, it looks pretty good.

The Halo and Call Of Duty inspiration are abundantly clear, even having a similar heads-up-display to the Spartans found in the Halo games, and to say it’s nowhere near release, it looks very impressive. The Unreal Engine 5 graphics look stunning, with the world and combat looking crisp and visually pleasing, including the lighting and explosive effects. The world looks clean and vibrant, and it’s guaranteed to look even better when it’s complete.

Sentinel is currently in extremely early development, with no indication of when and where it might be dropping, though it’ll likely be a PC exclusive. There’s no publisher tied to the project at the moment, which could harm the game’s release further down the line if one can’t be found, but given how it’s a collaborative effort between Halo and Call Of Duty developers, it’ll likely find one eventually. There’s also a chance that with the right publisher, the title could make its way onto consoles like the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 at some point in the future.

This is definitely a game to keep an eye on, and it’ll be exciting to see how its development changes over time. It’s unlikely it’ll reach the same status as the titan franchises that inspired it, but Halo: Combat Evolved started as a pipe dream at Bungie before amassing its audience with the help of Microsoft, so who knows?
