A new free game that looks like a mix of Call of Duty Zombies and Days Gone has just hit Steam, and it might be the next best thing for you to check out this week.

Ravenous Horde is a new FPS from Vector Interactive which combines the chaotic co-operative gameplay of Call of Duty Zombies with the large zombie hordes of Days Gone.

Zombie games were all the rage when I was younger, and although we don’t seem to get as many of them nowadays, there are still a few decent ones released a few times a year. And Ravenous Horde may be brand new, but it looks like it’s shaping up to be a decently fun time.

The game is basically a spin on the extraction shooter genre, where you and a team of up to 63 other players have to try and escape from a large horde of zombies.

However, there’s also a twist. Perishing on the battlefield will cause you to come back as a zombie, forcing you to then take the fight to your former comrades-in-arms.

With this in mind, the game is essentially a twist on the classic Zombie Panic or Infected-type game modes that have been done to death in several classic FPS games. It looks like good fun for anyone who is after a standalone experience of that.

Vector Interactive

“Team up with 64 players to fight off the horde of zombies in this post-apocalyptic FPS or join the horde against the living! Turn on your teammates and tear them apart. Level up and unlock new weapons, perks, clothing options and more! Equip your favourite loadout and join the fight,” reads the official Steam description for Ravenous Horde.

“Play the way you want! Perks allow you to play the game as you like. With over 50 perks you can play offensively, defensively or help your fellow hunters. Pick perks for your zombie character as well, throw more body parts, take reduced damage, have bodyparts explode and ways to help your zombie teammates!

“Customize your hunter the way you want! Through playing the game you unlock new apparel which you can equip and show off. Your zombie character will use the same equipped apparel in a ravaged state!”

Essentially, this might be the game to check out if you’re a fan of Call of Duty Zombies, or other classic zombie shooters like Left 4 Dead and Resident Evil.
