New PS5 Free Download Is The Perfect Mix Of Skyrim And Minecraft

A new indie offering

The PlayStation Store isn’t updated with demos as regularly as, say, PC storefront Steam, but that’s not to say that it doesn’t acquire the occasional banger.

And by the looks of it, the newly added The Curse of Tethria could be a solid addition for fans of both Minecraft and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Developed by indie dev Andrew Piper and published by Threax Software, The Curse of Tethria is hard to place within a single genre.

A Generous Demo for an Intriguing Indie Release

It incorporates platforming, dungeon crawling, action-adventure, and metroidvania elements within its formula.

“Explore dungeons, avoid traps, fight monsters and progress through a hand-crafted world,” the game’s synopsis states.

“Defeat your enemies with action combat using your sword and shield, the tools you find and items from the environment. Can you overcome these challenges to end the curse and restore the world from evil?”

The medieval fantasy setting certainly has a Skyrim feel about it, although the voxel-based influences on the game’s world scream Minecraft.

There’s a nostalgic feeling to The Curse of Tethria even if it is entirely new, so it’s a game retro fans may want to sample.

The full game is available now, and it won’t break the bank, retailing for £18.99.

To see if it’s for you though, you can try a free demo via the PlayStation Store. This is only available for PS5 users, not PS4.

The demo allows players to experience the very first dungeon of The Curse of Tethria and should you enjoy what you play, your progress will carry over upon purchase of the full game.

It seems to be faring pretty well already with users.

The demo boasts a 3.6 out of five rating on the PlayStation Store, correct at the time of writing, but that doesn’t quite tell the full story.

An impressive 60% of players have awarded the demo a perfect score of five out of five. That’s very high praise.

I do recommend you browse the PlayStation Store’s demo selection from time to time.

In case you missed it, Koei Tecmo recently dropped a free demo for Nioh 3 that’s already proved to be a colossal hit across all platforms.

The action RPG’s reviews recently dropped, and it sounds like an early GOTY contender, earning a score of 86 on aggregate site Metacritic.

True Fear: Forsaken Souls - Part 3, Dark Auction, Baptiste, Code Vein II, Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties, The 9th Charnel, and Dragon Quest VII Reimagined are amongst the other titles to have had demos added to the store in recent weeks.
