Three classic Far Cry games are set to receive next-gen updates in the near future, as confirmed from Ubisoft itself.

The Far Cry games are among some of Ubisoft’s most popular open-world shooters, but many of them are locked to 30 frames-per-second if you’re playing on certain hardware, which can be a shame.

Ubisoft, however, often releases next-gen patches for its older games to help them run better on newer gaming platforms, such as Far Cry 5’s update in 2023, and Assassin’s Creed Syndicate’s 60fps upgrade in 2024.

Far Cry 3, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, And Far Cry: Primal Set For Next-Gen Upgrades

It looks like several older Far Cry games may be next to receive this treatment, as seemingly confirmed by Ubisoft in a recent series of posts on social media.

As we reported earlier this month, the first tease came from a social media post Ubisoft made on 5 January, posting a cheeky image in response to a fan asking for 60fps in Far Cry 3 and Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon.

This was followed by a mysterious post from earlier this week where Ubisoft teased three separate 60fps upgrades for several Far Cry games.

Using emojis to announce the upgrades, the games in question appear to be Far Cry 3, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, and Far Cry: Primal, which are stuck in 30fps jail on current-gen platforms for the time being.

Technically, Far Cry 3 already runs at 60fps on Xbox Series X/S, being available via backwards compatibility from the Xbox 360 version.

However, the update will supposedly be for Far Cry 3: Classic Edition, the 2018 remaster that was released for PS4 and Xbox One alongside Far Cry 5 that is still stuck in 30fps jail.

Meanwhile, Far Cry: Primal already runs at 60fps via FPS Boost on Xbox Series X/S consoles. This update will introduce the framerate bump natively, and will also hit PlayStation gamers as well.

As for when these updates will be released, PureXbox reports that these will be released next week, on 21 January.

With Ubisoft’s 40th anniversary coming up in March, it’s possible that the company is intent on celebrating its most popular games with new releases and updates throughout the year.

Rumours stated that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Resynced are set to be revealed this month. Nothing has been confirmed yet though.
