Far Cry 3 is the best Far Cry game. I feel confident that the vast majority of us know that to be true.
It’s for that reason that I’m surprised it’s yet to receive a new-gen update.
Typically, new-gen updates concern previous-gen games which, in the current landscape, sees PlayStation 4 or Xbox One games updated for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Far Cry 3, of course, originally landed during the generation before that back in 2012, so you might be curious about my earlier surprise.

You see, Ubisoft has been breaking that aforementioned trend for quite some time, bringing a wide array of its back catalogue into the current generation via free updates.
Far Cry 4, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Far Cry: New Dawn, and Assassin’s Creed Origins are amongst some of the examples to have already received new-gen bells and whistles.
Finally, however, it looks as Far Cry 3 will soon join its upgraded counterparts as Ubisoft has teased a new-gen patch.

60fps Coming to Far Cry 3
This all pertains to a tweet recently dropped by the official Far Cry account.
A fan asked, “Far Cry 3 classic edition and Blood Dragon 60fps update when? Please tell me soon,” prompting the Far Cry account to reply with a rather smug looking meme.
Many have taken this as confirmation that a Far Cry 3 update is indeed happening; we just simply don’t know when it’ll land.
It is a big year though for Ubisoft so my guess would be sooner rather than later.
On 28 March 2026, the company will celebrate its 40th anniversary, and I don’t think it's a coincidence that a Ubisoft Forward event hasn’t been held in quite some time.
For a couple of years, Ubisoft held its annual showcase to coincide with Summer Game Fest, but they skipped such an event in 2025.
With that in mind, we’re long overdue for some updates from the company, hence why many are convinced that a major 40th anniversary showcase is planned, and I find it rather convincing.
The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake has already leaked, as has a remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, subtitled Resynced.
Then there’s Assassin’s Creed Hexe which we know is on the way, plus Far Cry 7.
We also haven’t heard anything about Assassin’s Creed Jade since those 2023 beta tests, which is pretty darn weird, plus Star Wars Outlaws is finally finding its audience. Maybe we could see more from that game.
I sense Ubisoft is planning a major comeback, and I hope a Far Cry 3 60fps update is a part of that as the above tweet suggests.
