The Fallout adaptation on Prime Video has been one of the best video game adaptations we have seen, in any medium, combining a fresh take on the franchise with a real attention to detail that draws on the games significantly.
Along the journey so far, we have taken in some of the more iconic features of the three decade old franchise, including ghouls, vaults, power armor and raiders, but the fun hasn't stopped there.
The most recent episode of the show has given us a look at what Deathclaws look like in this version of Fallout, which even more excitingly, has shown us what the creatures were like before the war.
If you're wondering why Deathclaws were around before the bomb dropped, they weren't an unfortunate side effect of the radiation, like Radscorpions, Centaurs or Cazadors. Instead, they were actually created by the United States government as a bizarre attempt at making super soldiers a reality.

That first look at early Deathclaws is drawing a lot of praise online right now, and it's easy to see why.
Deathclaw Design in Fallout Draws Inspiration From Several Games

Over on Reddit, one user asked the Fallout community for their thoughts, after we were introduced to the Deathclaw in the show for the first time.

Happily, it seems like almost everyone feels like it has been a great next step for the iconic monster.
"Big doom lizard continues to be big doom lizard. I actually think it's my favourite out of all of them, now," one response read.
"Fantastic, perfect fusion of the modern and 3/NV Deathclaw. Hopefully the remasters we'll likely get will model it after this," another added.
A third echoed similar feelings, saying, "Like the overall look; it takes the silhouette/stance of the 3/NV Deathclaw while applying abit of the former with 4's aesthetic but rightfully trimmed down so it doesn't look like some lumbering brute.

"The larger forward pointing horns (3/NV) and the spines (4) being Goji-style makes it easy to identify as an Alpha Male even without the clear gun gray scale (3/NV) colouration being visible."
The decision to take design elements from Deathclaws across many different games has undoubtedly been an inspired one, giving a little something to everyone, regardless of which game they have favoured over the years.
With the second season now half over, it will be exciting to see what other iconic characters and creatures manage to make their first appearances before this next run ends.
